About Semaglutide

Semaglutide (generic name) is an FDA approved once a week subcutaneous injection designed for long term use and can utilize a more flexible eating plan. Approved in 2017 for type 2 diabetics to help improve glycemic control, Semaglutide was then approved in 2022 for non-diabetics who have difficulty with weight loss. Semaglutide is not a stimulant; it is a non-habit forming, clinically proven effective peptide for long-term results.

Some people may be more familiar with Semaglutide being called Ozempic. Ozempic is a brand name for semaglutide. Currently, Illume only offers the generic semaglutide, and not semaglutide as Ozempic. 

How Semaglutide Works

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide (GLP1) analog. GLP-1 is a naturally occurring peptide hormone that impacts your appetite and digestion. GLP-1 is produced in the small intestine which then stimulates insulin secretion and slows down glucagon secretion. This delays gastric emptying and slowing down the rate at which your stomach sends food to your large intestine. This slower digestion (which improves blood sugar) and a longer feeling of fullness. It also stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin, removing sugar from the bloodstream, which allows the body to regulate and metabolize sugars easier
